The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee’s ArtsECO (Arts Education/Community Ecosystem) program has received a $15,000 Art Works grant from the National Endowment for the Arts.
ArtsECO, a partnership between the Peck School of the Arts and the School of Education, provides professional development and hands-on experiences in art, technology and digital fabrication for Milwaukee teachers.
ArtsECO institutes are designed to help teachers develop new skills and teaching approaches to help students become innovative and creative.
“The NEA award allows ArtsECO to experiment with a collaborative approach to teaching art, technology, and art education – processes that are all integral to the Department of Art & Design at Peck School of the Arts and important for 21st Century education,” said Joelle Worm, ArtsECO director at UWM. “The NEA-supported Summer Institute will serve Milwaukee-area teachers, and the thousands of students that they teach, in the integration of these technologies and processes into classrooms throughout the city.”
The NEA grant to UWM was one of 10 awarded in Wisconsin.
