Additional federal emergency aid available in spring semester

Additional federal aid for students from the Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund (HEERF) will be available during the Spring 2022 term.

UWM has already disbursed close to $30 million in HEERF money since the start of the pandemic in March 2020. Based upon current legislation, the funds to be released during the spring 2022 term are likely to be the last.

Students who were enrolled in the fall 2021 semester and received a HEERF grant in Fall 2021 do not need to reapply if they are enrolled in the Spring 2022 term. Students will receive consideration based upon their prior application.

All other students who feel they are eligible would need to complete and submit an application. The link to the application will be provided via a campus announcement in early January 2022. The application will be available starting Monday, Jan. 3, 2022, and will be open until midnight on Monday, Jan. 31, 2022.

The anticipated disbursement of the funds will occur during the week of Feb. 14, 2022. All checks issued must be cashed no later than Friday, March 18, 2022. At such time, uncashed checks will be canceled and the funds will be re-awarded to other eligible students.

All funds not spent by May, 1, 2022, must be returned to the U.S. Department of Education. Therefore, it is highly recommended that students sign up to receive funds via direct deposit. Information on how to sign-up for direct deposit can be found online.
