Pause before signing off-campus rental agreements

You’re interested in living off campus, and you’ve finally figured out who you want to live with. Now it’s time to sign a lease as soon as possible, right? Wrong.

A common concern for prospective tenants is how soon to sign a rental agreement.

The best time to sign any rental contract is about two to three months before the month you want to move in. Here’s why:

  • Current occupants of homes typically start letting their landlords know if they will continue their lease or will be moving out.
  • You’ll have the most options available.
  • Prices are typically lower as the market is more competitive.
