Preliminary assessment shows education students scoring well

UWM education students scored well in recent results for the edTPA program.

The educative Teacher Performance Assessment is a national method of measuring education students’ readiness to be licensed in Wisconsin as teachers. It incorporates video clips of classroom instruction as well as lesson plans, student work samples, analysis of student learning and reflective commentaries. It is described by the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction as one of the performance measures that will be required for initial licensing.

Although the edTPA is not yet required for licensing, UWM has been preparing students in the School of Education for the assessment for some time. At this point, the anticipated cut-off score for the statewide program is 35, and UWM’s education students scored well above that mark. Students in the Middle Childhood-Early Adolescence program averaged 45.2 and students in the Early Childhood Education program averaged 46.
