2 UWM divisions get new names

Two of UWM’s six divisions have new names. The Development & Alumni Relations is now University Advancement, led by Vice Chancellor Joan Nesbitt. The division can be abbreviated UA.

“University Advancement is a name that reflects our increasingly unified and integrated approach to engagement,” Nesbitt said. “Removing barriers between development and alumni relations streamlines our work, which is inherently holistic and people-centered. Our team is excited to lead with a name that better matches our mission to build stakeholder awareness of, engagement with and support for UWM.”

University Relations & Communications is now Marketing & Communications, or MarComm, and Government Relations has moved to the Office of Strategic Partnerships, led by Chief Partnership Officer Jennifer Abele.

“This change positions UWM to focus on enrollment management marketing to our future and current students,” Chancellor Mark Mone said. “It also more efficiently aligns and strengthens the existing linkages we have with our external relations, government relations and partnerships work.”

A search for a MarComm vice chancellor is underway. Chief Marketing Officer Michelle Johnson is leading the division in the interim.

UWM’s four other divisions are Academic Affairs, led by Interim Provost Scott Gronert; Diversity, Equity & Inclusion, led by Vice Chancellor Chia Vang; Finance & Administrative Affairs, led by Vice Chancellor Robin Van Harpen; and Student Affairs, led by Vice Chancellor Kelly Haag.
