In partnership with the UWM Planetarium, UWM’s Institute of World Affairs hosted Kenyan Astronomer and African Planetarium Association President Susan Murabana. In addition to public programs at the Planetarium in conjunction with the Under African Skies series, she participated in a Social Good Morning conversation at the Lubar Entrepreneurship Center to discuss her social enterprise, the Travelling Telescope. Ms. Murabana also shared her experiences with students at Bay View High School and elementary and middle school students from the International Newcomer Center at the Milwaukee Academy of Chinese Language (MACL).
Throughout her time in Milwaukee, Ms. Murabana reminded all of us that we are interconnected through the skies we share...
“We all look up, at least at some point in our lives, and wonder about the moon”
“Astronomy was something I wanted to popularize in the country because we want to have kids excited about it, and we want the parents and teachers to be excited about it too.”
“We travel across the continent from Nairobi to Capetown visiting schools… …and I noticed that they just loved having people talk to them, and they just love science and experimenting!”
