IMAGINE: NextGen Voices Reflect on Peace

The Institute of World Affairs hosted Generation Human Rights Director Elana Haviv for an impactful week of programming exploring youth and peacebuilding with campus and community audiences.  Dr. Haviv discussed careers in human rights education and peacebuilding with Master of Sustainable Peacebuilding (MSP) students, shared curricular resources with current and future K-12 Educators at an ArtsECO Teacher Meet-Up, and connected with community members through the Lynden Sculpture Garden’s HOME initiative.  A highlight of the week was a peacebuilding workshop offered in partnership with UWM’s Quest Project for 8th and 9th grade students from across Milwaukee.   The students created peace artifacts that reflect the challenges they face and their hopes for positive change locally and globally.  The interactive program also featured an inspiring virtual talk by Dieudonné Gakire, Founder and Director of the Dusego Empowerment Hub who joined from Rwanda to share his experiences as a young survivor of the 1994 genocide and his journey into peacebuilding work.
