    Grand Avenue Club
    Team of 5 students created a social media engagement plan, posting schedule, and posts for the organizations.
  • Racine Revitalization Partnership, Inc.
    Team of 5 students redesigned the website for the organization and created a promotional video for them to highlight their impact on the community.
  • Milwaukee Tennis & Education Foundation
    Team of 5 students transferred the website to Squarespace, redesigned it, added an SSL certificate, and created an Instagram presence.
  • Literacy Services of Wisconsin
    Team of 5 students assisted the organization with moving instruction online during covid-19. The team observed classes, assisted with technical issues, and provided documentation for instructors and students using their online meeting platforms.

Spring 2020

  • Bublr Bikes
    Team of 5 students redesigned the website for Milwaukee’s nonprofit bike share program.
  • BloomMKE Inc
    Team of 4 students redesigned the website and provided assistance with the social media platforms Facebook and Instagram.
  • Moms Mental Health Initiative
    Team of 5 students assisted with website additions to improve the site and added secure browsing with an SSL certificate.
  • Groundwork Milwaukee & Forward Careers
    Team of 5 students added an SSL certificate, performed updates to the website, and centralized form entries and payments for Groundwork Milwaukee. Provided social media assistance including post templates and scheduling posts throughout the semester for Forward Careers.
  • Milwaukee Children’s Choir
    Team of 5 students performed a variety of in-office IT upgrades to improve office efficiency including database management, cable management, and recycling of old machines.
  • Chix4 a Cause & Higher Educational Regional Alliance (HERA)
    Team of 4 students provided form processing, website, and social media assistance to Chix 4 a Cause. Provided mainly social media infrastructure assistance for HERA including posts, content, and a strategy for the new organization.
  • Eastside Senior Services
    Team of 5 students provided website and database assistance; including improved efficiency in how volunteer hours are tracked and reported.
  • SHARP Literacy & Kompost Kids
    Team of 4 students assisted in the SHARP 5th grade coding program in schools on Milwaukee’s south side. Provided website enhancements for Kompost Kids.

Spring 2019

  • Peace Learning Center of Milwaukee, Inc.
    Team of 4 students created a new website using WordPress. Switching domains and providers provided the organization with a substantial cost savings. The team also re-designed the logo and created a style guide for branding future digital assets.
  • Sherman Park Community Association
    Team of 5 students performed a number of tasks; secured the website so that donations could be sent securely, saved the organization hosting costs, added a boundary map of the neighborhood to the website, increased the website download speed, upgraded 2 office work stations to new computers, and more.
  • Milwaukee Joint Human Trafficking Task Force
    Team of 5 students created a brand new website for the task force, which is a partnership of the Milwaukee Police Department and Sojourner Family Peace Center.
  • Wisconsin Nonprofit Resources Group
    Team of 5 students created a website for the organization featuring a searchable map/database of resources for nonprofits based on 6 regions of the state of Wisconsin. The team also designed a logo to be used for the website and other branding materials.
  • Wisconsin Institute for Peace and Conflict Studies
    Team of 5 students re-designed the website for the organization and moved the website off of a university’s servers to a self-hosted solution. The team also designed a logo to be used for the website and other branding materials.
  • BrookLink
    Team of 5 students re-designed the website for the organization, switching from Joomla to WordPress.
  • Express Yourself Milwaukee and True Skool
    Team of 5 students provided web UI/UX assistance, social media guides and best practices, and assistance moving EXYOMKE to a cloud based file sharing platform.
  • Ronald McDonald Charities of Eastern WI and Arts@Large
    Team of 4 students provided social media guides and best practices and video templates with logos to be used for branding future posts and content.

Spring 2018

  • Express Yourself Milwaukee
    A team of 4 students assisted with creating event flyers and templates, backing up critical files and infrastructure, and IT-related office tasks.  This is the second semester that Nonprof-IT has partnered with EXYOMKE.
  • Grandmothers Beyond Borders
    An online team of 4 students re-designed an outdated website for the organization.  Students switched from a wordpress.com to .org environment for a more robust website for Grandmothers Beyond Borders.
  • Lutheran Counseling & Family Services of Wisconsin
    A team of 4 students re-designed an outdated website for LCFSWI.  This will allow the organization to update and change content on their own.  This is the second semester that Nonprof-IT has partnered with LCFSWI.
  • Malaika Early Learning Center
    Graduate Assistant Sam Goerke assisted with general IT support over the summer.
  • Menomonee Valley Partners
    A team of 4 students designed a new site for the organization in advance of the 20th anniversary year in 2019.
  • Metcalfe Park Community Bridges
    A team of 4 students designed a brand new website from scratch.  Previously the organization only had a Facebook page.  This allows Metcalfe Park to fund-raise and connect with members of the community.
  • Northcott Neighborhood House
    A team of 4 students re-designed an outdated website.
  • Still Waters Collective
    A team of 4 students assisted with website maintenance, creating social media posts and content, and creating event flyers.  The team also added e-commerce capability to the website to sell books of poetry.
  • Waukesha County Community Dental Clinic
    A team of 4 students created a new website showcasing the WCCDC’s services and new location in Menomonee Falls.

Fall 2017

  • 9 to 5 Wisconsin
    An online team of 3 students re-designed an outdated website for 9 to 5 Wisconsin. Specifically the site created is for Keeping Families First, which is a  statewide coalition formed to protect Wisconsin’s current Family and Medical Leave Act and create Family and Medical Leave Insurance.  Thank you to Jessica Knaak from Ascedia for serving as mentor for the team.
  • Artworks for Milwaukee
    A team of 4 students re-designed an outdated website for Artworks Milwaukee. The site was re-designed using WordPress and now features an interactive map of the murals created by Artworks for Milwaukee in the community among other updates.  Thank you to Alex Barr from Direct Supply for serving as mentor for the team.
  • Community Living Arrangements
    A team of 3 students re-designed an outdated website for Community Living Arrangements. The site was re-designed using WordPress and now features an interactive map of service locations throughout WI.  Thank you to Nate Ziarek from Direct Supply for serving as mentor for the team.
  • Friends of Lakeshore State Park
    A team of 4 students re-designed an outdated website for Friends of Lakeshore State Park. The site was re-designed using WordPress and was just in time as they embark on a fundraiser.  Thank you to Holly Murphy and Danny Ferro from Northwestern Mutual for serving as mentors for the team.
  • Lutheran Counseling & Family Services of Wisconsin
    A team of 3 students worked on some social media marketing campaigns for the organization to increase their engagement.  One success of the project was successfully increasing outreach and attendance for a fundraiser, which resulted in increased donations.
  • WI Council on Economics Education
    A team of 4 students re-designed an outdated website for the Wisconsin Council on Economics Education. The site was re-designed using WordPress and features a new logo and color scheme.  Students had the added experience of attending an event at Lambeau Field for the organization  Thank you to Jon Knecht and Tyler Fabian from Northwestern Mutual for serving as mentors for the team.

Summer 2017

During the summer, we had our Graduate Student, Sam Goerke, help out 5 organizations that didn’t get selected for a full semester long project:

  • Friedens Food Pantry
    Our Graduate Student helped with an overall technology assessment at Friedens. This included scanning and cleaning up their computers, setting up their printer/scanner, and fixing their card printer. He helped to answer various small technology questions they had, and gave information about information information/computer security.
  • University Christian Ministries
    Our Graduate Student helped University Christian Ministries with their plan to upgrade their wi-fi. He helped to answer questions about wireless placement, speeds, and security. He followed up with UCM after they implemented a new system.
  • RECALL Foundation
    Our Graduate Student helped the RECALL Foundation with their already third-party created site. He focused on creating documentation and how-to guides so that they can maintain the simpler aspects of their site without having to always contact the expensive consulting company
  • Fondy Food Center
    Our Graduate Student gave a general technology assessment to the Fondy Food Center. This included: Setting up a wireless printing network, training the staff, create a new workstation from donated equipment, trouble-shooting their email system, and fixing their firewall settings.
  • Wisconsin Philanthropy Network
    Our Graduate Student helped to make changes to the already existing website for the WI Philanthropy Network. He worked on various ascetic aspects by changing and resizing content. He also creating a backup system for the website as well adding new requested functionality to the site with regards to their registration and directory system.

Spring 2017

  • Adaptive Community Approach
    A team of 4 students re-designed an outdated site highlighting programs, making it accessible, and responsive to different sized devices. Thank you to Holly Murphy and Amy Schulz from Northwestern Mutual for serving as mentors for the team.
  • Cope Services
    A team of students re-designed an outdated site highlighting resources, making it mobile friendly, and placing the phone number in areas of prominence on the site. Thank you to Beth Duerr from Direct Supply for serving as the team’s mentor.
  • Express Yourself Milwaukee
    Students undertook a number of small projects for the semester including; providing assistance with social media accounts, help with a backup and storage solution for files, and upgrading slow-running computers. Thank you to Nate Ziarek from Direct Supply for serving as the team’s mentor.
  • Milwaukee Teacher Education Center
    A team of students undertook a database integration record for student records and assisted with some smaller issues like upgrading the wifi in the nonprofits office. Thank you to Jon Knecht and Andy Ninneman from Northwestern Mutual for serving as the team’s mentor.
  • Midwest Association for Information Systems
    Two online students re-designed an outdated site for the organization. Thank you to JasonCrossman from Church Mutual for serving as the team’s mentor.
  • WI Anti-Violence Effort, WAVE
    A team of 4 students re-designed an outdated site for the organization. Thank you to Vanessa Radlinger from Red Arrow for serving as mentors for the team.

Fall 2016

  • Bryon Riesch Paralysis Foundation
    A team of students completely re-designed an outdated site for BRPF. Thank you to Jordan Cena from Symmetry for serving as the team’s business mentor.
  • Walker’s Point Youth and Family Center
    A team of online students (the first NonpfofIT online team) transformed the website from an outdated look using WordPress.  Among the features added were; a 24 hour hotline number and translation into Spanish, Russian, and Hmong. Thank you to Andrew Crawford from Lightburn for serving as the team’s business mentor.
  • Literary Services of Wisconsin
    A team of students created a new website for Literary Services. The website is completely responsive, eliminating the need for a separate mobile and desktop website that the organization was using previously. Thank you to Alex Barr from Direct Supply for serving as the team’s business mentor.
  • ARMA International Educational Foundation
    A team of students created a brand new website for ARMA. Students used WordPress to develop the site so that ARMA members can update their site in the future. Thank you to Beth Duerr from Direct Supply for serving as the team’s business mentor.
  • GPS Education Partners
    A team of students assisted GPS with a social media marketing campaign predominantly using Facebook and Twitter.  The team was able to assist GPS in better connecting with their core user base of students and donors.  Students developed a posting schedule and trained staff on how to continue using social media at the end of the project.  Thank you to Anthony Jesmok of Misix for serving as the team’s business mentor. Anthony is a recent alum of SOIS.

Spring 2016

  • Kids Tales
    A team of 4 students successfully re-designed the website for Kids Tales. Students switched the site to WordPress and created a fresh layout. Among the features added were a map of workshop locations and training materials for teachers leading the workshops.
  • Spotted Eagle Inc
    A team of 3 students transformed the website from an outdated look using WordPress. Among the features added were; images displaying what the organization does, social media integration, a calendar of events, and easily accessible location information.
  • UWM Student Association
    A team of 4 students created a financial aid portal to be used by students at UWM. Prior to the project there was no existing resource like this on campus. The portal features information on financial aid/loans and includes a quiz function that quickly tests students comprehension of the resources.
  • All Hands Boatworks
    A team of 4 students created the website for All Hands Boatworks. Prior to working with nonprof-IT All Hands Boatworks did not have a website. The website provides a place to direct people to more information about All Hands Boatworks and the impact that it is having on the community.

Fall 2015

  • Running Rebels
    A team of students successfully re-designed the website for the organization. The previous site was using an outdated version of the Joomla content management system. Students switched the site to WordPress and added, among other features, a spot on the website for the R-Life Cafe, e-commerce functionality, and a responsive layout.
  • Capitol Heights
    A student team created a WordPress site for the Capitol Heights Neighborhood Association. Before the project the organization did not have a website. Students also assisted with the fall neighborhood cleanup and created a Twitter account for the organization to improve communication with neighborhood residents and the larger community.
  • UW-Milwaukee Planetarium
    Students created a new website for the Manfred Olson Planetarium at UW-Milwaukee. The team worked within the universities WordPress environment to create the site. Among the new features added were a calendar displaying upcoming shows/events, and a reservation system used to schedule community outings to the Planetarium.
  • Dance Circus
    A student was able to provide technical assistance to the organization on a number of different issues including; assistance with the email server, cleaning up the current website’s menu structure, and providing some social media expertise with the organizations Facebook and Twitter presence.

Spring 2015

  • Milwaukee Riverkeeper
    A team of students completed a website re-design project for Milwaukee Riverkeeper during the Spring 2015 semester. The team created a new WordPress site out of an outdated Drupal design.  The team provided programming, design, and content assistance.
  • Community First
    Students completed a website re-design project for Community First during the Spring 2015 semester.  The old Blogger website was transitioned to the WordPress platform to enable staff at Community First to make updates on their own. The team provided logo re-design, social media assistance, and training for the staff on how to manage the website going forward.  Check out the I AM UWM story on Roderick battiste,1 of the student developers who worked on the project.

Fall 2014

  • The Saint Josaphat Basilica Foundation
    Website re-design project completed by students during the Fall 2014 semester. Students re-designed the site and transferred it to the WordPress platform which allows staff at the foundation to make content edits and updates going forward. The student team provided design, development, and a training manual at the completion of the project.
  • Housing Resources Inc. (HRI)
    Website re-design project completed by students during the Fall 2014 semester. Students re-designed the site and transferred it to the WordPress platform which allows staff to make updates going forward. The student team provided template design, and a training materials at the completion of the project.
