By default, UWM’s all suite-style housing is coed by floor and single-gender by suite. This means all residents of a suite will be the same legal gender, but the suite next door may be all residents of the opposite gender. However, some exceptions exist and can be requested at time of contract completion. Please see options below.
Inclusive Housing
UW-Milwaukee is proud to be the first university in the University of Wisconsin System to offer Inclusive Housing. Inclusive Housing offers a welcoming space for students who self-select and self-identify as transgender, gender nonbinary, cisgender, with gender non-conforming expression, LGBTQ+, and students identifying as allies, related to living in University Housing at UW-Milwaukee. University Housing offers suites (and some floors depending upon student interest) where students may reside with any roommate without regard to gender identity or legal gender.
Single-Gender Communities
UW-Milwaukee also offers its residents the opportunity to elect to live on a single-legal gender floor (all-male or all-female) where every suite is occupied by residents of the same gender. This contract preference may be amended up until the start of the Assignment process.
