History MA Gavin’s essay on indigenous dispossession in Hawai’i

Congratulations to History MA student Marissa Gavin, whose article detailing the ongoing struggle to prohibit the building of the Thirty Meter Telescope, an advanced space observatory, on the sacred site of Mauna Kea mountain on the island of Hawai’i was published this summer by the History News Network.

Professor Vang named a Distinguished Lecturer by the OAH

Congratulations to Professor Chia Youyee Vang who is the recipient of one of the historical profession’s top honors. This fall Professor Vang was made a Distinguished Lecturer by the Organization of American Historians. The Distinguished Lectureship Program facilitates keynote addresses by leading historians in a variety of fields in US history. Professor Vang will offer several lectures related to Hmong refugee resettlement in the United States and the Vietnam War.
