The Graduate Student Commons is a collaborative project between the UWM Libraries and the Graduate School. Located on the second floor, east wing of the Golda Meir Library, this fully renovated 2,700-square-foot space offers UWM graduate students a dedicated “third space” — an alternative to home and the classroom — for studying, networking with peers, and building community.

With views overlooking the UWM Fountain and abundant natural light, the Commons features a variety of seating options, including comfortable chairs, study booths, and whiteboards. The space is divided into two distinct areas: one for quiet study and another designed for collaboration and conversation.

Michael Doylen, Director of Libraries, noted, “This project supports our strategic goal of enhancing student success by creating environments that meet the evolving needs of our students.”

Interim Vice Provost for Research & Graduate School Dean, Dr. Kristian O’Connor, shared, “Establishing a space specifically for UWM’s graduate students has long been a priority for the Graduate School. We are thrilled to see it come to life. We encourage students to take full advantage of this amazing space, whether for group projects or finding a quiet corner to study.”

Access to the Commons is restricted to currently enrolled UWM graduate students and is available with a PantherCard. The new Commons replaces the Scriptorium, a previous study area dedicated to graduate students.
