Kristian O’Connor, Ph.D.
Interim Vice Provost for Research & Graduate School Dean

The best and brightest graduate students from around the state, country, and world come to the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee to pursue their passions at the highest level. They come for our world-class faculty, our top-tier research facilities, and the extended classroom that is the vibrant City of Milwaukee. I’ve been a professor at UWM since 2002, and I have the privilege of serving as the Interim Dean of the Graduate School, which supports over 4,300 master’s and doctoral students from the day they apply until long after they graduate. Those students go on to tackle the hardest problems facing our world today, in industry, health care, government, non-profits, the academy, and more.

The Graduate School is here to support students all the way through their degrees and into successful careers. We provide over a million dollars of graduate student fellowships each year, regular professional development training, and help with degree completion, as well as guidance through the milestones of your degree. With our many campus partners we also support initiatives for community building, diversity and inclusion, and student health and well-being. Nobody succeeds alone. We’re proud to walk with you as you pursue your dreams.

Whether you’re looking at graduate schools, already a student at UWM, or a proud alum, I promise you the Graduate School’s full commitment to UWM’s guiding values. We are committed to innovation, open inquiry, care and compassion, and diversity in all its forms.

I feel sure you will thrive at UWM. If we pass on campus, stop me and say hello! I wish you all the best and every success in your journey.

Sincerely,

Kristian O’Connor, Ph.D.
