Welcome to the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee’s Graduate School! We’re proud of our graduate students, programs, and alumni and how they make significant contributions to our communities, from local to international. Whether you are interested in joining UWM as a student, or wish to partner with us in programming, student opportunities, or community initiatives, we are excited to promote and represent the importance of graduate training for societal wellbeing.
As an introduction to new visitors, we currently serve more than 4,200 graduate students in more than 100 graduate degrees and certificates. Our talented and award-winning faculty are at the forefront of their fields and committed to student success. We hold the Carnegie Classification for a top-tier research university (R1) while also emphasizing strong community engagement. We provide students with unique perspectives on how advanced learning and research contribute positively to society.
For interested students, when you find our program that best fits your passion, reach out to the graduate representative or the Graduate School for more information about requirements and applications. Some programs offer graduate assistantships. The Graduate School also distributes numerous fellowships each year to enrolled students, as well as other resources to enhance your experience here at UWM. You will find much to review and get excited about as you explore this website.
For alumni and community partners, we want to hear about your needs and opportunities that our students can address. We want to collaborate with you to create experiences for students to put their training into action. Examples abound in how graduate students make critical contributions in their fields well before a formal graduation.
Finally, for all, the Graduate School is committed to the full breadth of graduate education and its critical importance to students’ futures, the research enterprise, and community outreach. We are persistent in the pursuit of excellence for our graduate students, and in widely promoting their achievements and positive impacts for all of us.
I look forward to meeting you and sharing my pride in UWM’s graduate education students.
Sincerely,
Bryan E. Porter, Ph.D.
Dean of the Graduate School
