Between 2009 and 2015, monitoring in southern Green Bay, Lake Michigan revealed that low-oxygen (hypoxic) conditions are common during summer, affecting much of the bay’s bottom waters. Long-term records show the hypoxic season can last from weeks to months and may be increasing in duration, driven by stratification, oxygen consumption, and water movement.
