Coffee & Tea with Mary Ellen Baker: Anishinaabe Sober Voices
Coffee & Tea with Mary Ellen Baker: Anishinaabe Sober Voices
Date: Tuesday, October 28
Time: 11:00 AM – 12:00 PM
Location: AISC Student Lounge
Join us for an intimate gathering with Mary Ellen Baker, who will share insights from the Anishinaabe Sober Voices project. This powerful initiative preserves and digitizes recordings from the 1980s and 1990s featuring Elders from the Abiinooji Aki Cultural Healing Center and the Anishinaabe Way AODA Program. These voices speak to the strength of traditional Anishinaabe teachings in addressing alcohol and drug abuse, offering timeless wisdom rooted in cultural values, rituals, and community resilience.
Through stories of sobriety, healing, and cultural continuity, Mary Ellen will highlight how these teachings continue to support individuals and families today. Whether you’re a student, educator, health professional, or community member, this conversation offers meaningful perspectives on recovery, tradition, and the enduring power of Indigenous knowledge.
All are welcome.
