Kristen Roche’s research summarized in Fortune

A study by recent alumnus Kristen Roche, Mount Mary College, and former UWM professor Keith Bender, now at University of Aberdeen in Scotland, shows that when women are in charge, they tend to pay themselves lower salaries than their male counterparts in STEM fields.

The research by Roche and Bender was mentioned in an article summarizing research by researchers at the London School of Economics, Aston Business School, and University of Antwerp that noted that women “social entrepreneurs,” many opt to pay themselves lower salaries than do their male counterparts. And yet, the women entrepreneurs tend to be happier with their work.
