Statement on April 4 Court Hearing

UWM is committed to free speech on our campus. But demonstrations cannot disrupt classes or normal university operations, and the occupation of a campus building is unlawful. On Feb. 9, five protesters were arrested and cited for attempting to enter a locked area or refusing to leave after the building’s posted closing time. Law enforcement followed proper protocols during this process, and no excessive force was used. As this is an ongoing legal matter, UWM has no additional comments on the charges.
