In his talk, Kaufman will examine recent attempts to transform Wisconsin’s political culture, culminating in Donald Trump’s Wisconsin victory in the 2016 election. Kaufman will focus special attention on the citizen activists who fought these efforts and the national Democratic Party leaders who largely ignored them, while also delving into the history of Wisconsin’s progressive tradition and that legacy’s profound influence on the nation.

Youth for Nation: Culture and Protest in Cold War South Korea (Critical East Asian Humanities Collaboratory)

Kim advances a cultural explanation of that seminal event, including how post-Korean War media and statist texts helped establish youth protest as a cornerstone of national identity.
