As the Lubar School’s CPA-in-Residence, Mr. Severson provides individual advising, mentoring, and career guidance to both undergraduate and graduate accounting students. Topics of discussion may include various internship and career options in public accounting (large firm vs. small firm), private industry (for-profit vs. not-for-profit), business line (audit vs. tax), and industry specialization.

In assisting students with their academic and career options, Mr. Severson draws on more than 35 years of experience with BDO USA, LLP, where he retired as partner, specializing in healthcare and providing a variety of assurance and consulting services to post-acute care providers. While at BDO, he was highly involved in campus recruiting at UWM, attending a variety of Career Services and Beta Alpha Psi events.

Mr. Severson served for many years as the Chairman of the Board of LindenGrove, Inc. and LindenGrove Foundation, not-for-profit organizations serving seniors throughout the Waukesha County region.

He is a 1980 graduate of UWM’s Lubar School of Business.
