MLS Clinical Site Tour Information

BMS Labs

Return to the Year 3 Semester 2 Page

Information for 2024 clinical tours can be found below by clinical site.

Tours are available only to students that have been accepted in to the UWM Medical Laboratory Sciences submajor.  For more information, email Brad at bkdepons@uwm.edu

To sign up for a tour, please select a time from the table below in order to access the online sign-up form for that date.  Enter your UWM email, full name, and select an available spot prior to submitting the form.  Please sign up for only one date/time per site.  These online forms are set up to only allow a set number of people to sign up per date/time, so if a specific date/time is full you will see “Full” listed in the options, and you will need to choose a different tour.  If you are unable to sign up for another date/time, you will have the option to check “add me to the waiting list” for the tour or tours that you are able to attend, and I will email students on the waiting list if a spot opens up.  Waiting lists are not intended to be used for preferred dates/times, rather only for those who are unable to make it to a different time.  Please use this option only if you are unable to make it to another tour.  If spots become available for a specific tour, students will be invited to join based on the order that they were added to the waiting list, and will only be added if they have not signed up for another tour at that site.  If there is an error and a form lets more students to sign up for a date/time than is allowed, spots will be given to students in the order that they signed up.

It is strongly recommended that students tour as many clinical sites as possible, even if they are not showing strong interest in a particular site.  Seeing different laboratory settings is valuable, and allows students to see all potential sites that they may be placed at.  You may also find interest in a site after meeting the educational coordinator for that site or seeing the location/staff!

Chronological listing of tour dates

Dates of tours are found at the top of the table, and each site is listed in its own row.  Tour dates will be added as they are confirmed by each clinical site.  Please scroll down to sign up for specific tours under each clinical affiliate section

In-person tours will be offered on the following dates/times, with a limit of 6 students per tour.  At the request of Children’s Wisconsin, tours will be cancelled if less than 3 students sign up for an individual tour date/time.  NOTE: Visitor restrictions are currently in place due to respiratory virus season, and will be reevaluated at the beginning of February – tours may need to be rescheduled for later dates if these restrictions are not lifted prior to the scheduled tour dates.

At this time no tours on Mondays are being offered.  If you are in the Monday section of Hematology lab, we prefer that you sign up for a 1:00-2:00pm time slot if available in order to make space in the later tours for those in the Friday Hematology lab.  If you are unable to sign up for a 1:00pm tour (you can’t make it or the tour is full), students in the Monday lab can still sign up for a later tour.

To sign up for a tour, click on the link of the day/time and fill out the sign-up form.  Forms will be closed 2-3 days in advance to allow for final names/numbers to be communicated with the clinical site.

If you are unable to attend the in-person lab tour and do not have Friday lab, but are available to learn more, UW Hospital will be providing a “virtual tour” live stream of the beginning of this tour so that students may also join virtually.  There is a second sign-up for the virtual stream, with no limit to the number of students that may join.  The sign up will only be used so that UW Hospital knows who attended the virtual tour.  A link to this virtual tour can be found at the bottom of this page.

If you are interested in carpooling with Brad to this site, there is an option on the sign-up sheet to indicate this.  Brad is planning to attend and can fit up to 4 additional passengers if there is interest.  Students can also coordinate with each other to carpool, or drive alone.  The carpool will likely meet at the UWM campus (this can be determined closer to the tour date).
