About the Organization
ACL Laboratories is the laboratory system for Advocate Aurora Health. ACL is one of the top 10 largest health care system laboratories in the US, performing over 26 million laboratory tests annually. ACL provides services to 27 hospitals, over 110 clinic settings, 60 patient service centers, and over 5,000 outreach physician accounts throughout Wisconsin and Illinois.
How many students do they accept?
ACL typically accepts between 4-8 students for clinical rotations each year from the UW Milwaukee MLS program.
About the sites
ACL is one of the largest, highest volume laboratories affiliated with the UWM MLS program. Students that intend to complete clinical rotations with ACL Laboratories are typically offered a tour at the ACL Wisconsin Central Lab, which is located at Aurora West Allis Medical Center, and complete interviews with the ACL education coordinator. If accepted, students may complete part or all of their rotations at one of several ACL sites, including Aurora West Allis Medical Center, Aurora St. Luke’s Medical Center, Aurora Medical Center – Summit, and Aurora Sinai Medical Center. In addition to these primary sites, it may be possible to place students at Aurora Medical Center – Grafton or Aurora BayCare Medical Center if students are interested in rotations north of Milwaukee (Contact the Program Director if you are interested in completing rotations at these northern sites).
Additional information to consider
All students completing rotations with ACL Laboratories, regardless of primary clinical site, typically complete microbiology rotations at Aurora West Allis Medical Center, and blood bank rotations at Aurora Sinai Medical Center. Due to the need to attend multiple locations, it is recommended that students attending rotations at ACL have transportation available. Students completing rotations with ACL are only offered rotations within Wisconsin.
