Return to the MLS Program Resource Center
Clinical experience is a key component to training competent laboratory professionals, and is a requirement for both graduation and eligibility to become board certified as a Medical Laboratory Scientist or Public Health Microbiologist. The UWM MLS program partners with multiple local health care systems in order to offer this clinical training, which takes place between November-May of the final year of the program. Students that are granted a clinical placement will be assigned to a current clinical affiliate after completion of the Junior Year of the program and are not expected to find their own clinical rotation site. Clinical placements are not offered at all sites each year, and students that have been accepted in to the MLS submajor will be notified during the Junior Year Spring Semester regarding which sites will be accepting students. Due to the requirement for legally binding affiliation agreements, UWM Biomedical Sciences does not currently allow students to find their own clinical placements.
See the Junior Year Spring Semester page for more information about clinical placements
