In this tragicomic play, a grotesquely wealthy person returns to her hometown, which has suffered an economic downturn. In exchange for reversing their plight, she demands a high price—one that shakes the very bedrock of society.

First performed in Switzerland in 1956, The Visit made its Broadway debut in 1958 in a production directed by Peter Brook and starring Alfred Lunt and Lynn Fontanne in their final stage collaboration. Seventy years after its premiere, the play’s questions about wealth, justice, and the price of morality remain as provocative as ever.

Directed by Ralph Janes
Written by Friedrich Dürrenmatt
Translated by Maurice Valency

THE VISIT is presented by arrangement with Concord Theatricals on behalf of Samuel French, Inc.
