Rachel David is a North Carolina-based blacksmith, sculptor, designer, and maker. Her metalwork practice is holistic; encompassing art, furniture, architectural elements, activism, collaborations, and gardening. Using the physical and technically demanding processes of forging, forming, and machining steel, Rachel addresses broader issues of “body” and “landscape” through the lens of social and environmental justice. David’s work is in the collections of the Smithsonian Renwick Gallery, the City of New Orleans, the City of Asheville, the Simone Benetton Foundation, and numerous private collections.

Throughout the fall and spring semesters, the Artists Now! Guest Lecture Series welcomes a diverse group of nationally and internationally recognized artists working across traditional, hybrid and emergent disciplines. Join us to explore and expand boundaries of creative visual practices alongside others with an interest in contemporary visual art.
