  • Artists Now! Guest Lecture Series: Paul Mpagi Sepuya

    Paul Mpagi Sepuya’s photography explores the studio as a performative space, focusing on intimate, creative exchanges. His work has been shown at the Studio Museum Harlem, MoMA, and MCA Chicago. He won the 2017 Rema Hort Mann Emerging Artist Grant and lives in Los Angeles.

  • Generation to Generation: Conversing with Kindred Technologies

    Artists Nathaniel Stern, a UWM Professor of Art and Engineering, and Sasha Stiles, who has a concurrent solo exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art in NYC, independently developed this groundbreaking exhibition illuminating the intertwined evolution of humanity and technology, inviting viewers to reconsider the relationship between humans and the tools we invent.

  • Present Music Presents: Avant-Garden of Love (2nd Edition)

    Composer/singer/songwriter Corey Dargel writes quirky, unclassifiable art songs which explore both the roses and the thorns of relationships; he’s writing a new set of songs for Present Music inspired by conversations with AI— how Artificial Intelligence might (mis)understand what love means. A thinking-person’s Valentines concert, with more surprises than a box of chocolates (you never know what you’re going to get!

    Detroit-based ensemble Hub New Music has been called "a prime mover of piping hot 21st century repertoire" by The Washington Post. In its second performance at UWM, Hub shares commissioned works for its distinct ensemble of flute, clarinet, violin, and cello.

    The UW-Milwaukee Voice Area and Opera Theatre is proud to present RENT by Jonathan Larson preceded by a special performance of scenes from La Bohème by Giacomo Puccini. Experience Larson's groundbreaking musical that reshaped the landscape of American music theater. Set in New York’s East Village during the 1990s arts and activist movement, RENT follows a community of young artists navigating love, loss, creativity, and the realities of illness and economic hardship. Its blend of rock, pop, and lyrical storytelling continues to connect deeply with audiences.

    The UWM Wind Ensemble presents an exciting concert showcasing guest artists, international collaborators, and high school musicians from near and far. The program features Hub New Music performing Gala Flagello’s new work Bird-While, as well as Italian music students and conductors from cultural exchange programs as part of the International Music Project. We’re also thrilled to welcome select high school band students as they sit in with the Wind Ensemble for a side-by-side performance experience with UW–Milwaukee graduate and undergraduate music students.

    J Taran Diamond is a Baltimore-based metalsmith and educator. She has completed residencies at Arrowmont and Baltimore Jewelry Center, where she’s a Teaching Fellow. Outside of the studio, Diamond is an advocate for Black people in the fields of craft and academia and works to help achieve equity and accessibility within those fields.

  • Special Features | Impact Filmmaking: Documentary, Advocacy & Community

    This workshop explores documentary filmmaking as a tool for community advocacy and social impact. Attendees will examine how nonfiction stories can amplify marginalized voices, engage local communities, and move audiences toward awareness and action. Through case studies and practical discussion, the workshop addresses ethical storytelling, relationship-building with participants, and strategies for designing films with impact beyond the screen—equipping emerging filmmakers to tell responsible, community-centered stories that matter.

  • World Percussion Night

    The UWM Percussion Area hosts World Percussion Night in the beautiful Jan Serr Studio, featuring special guest Ho Etsu Taiko alongside the UWM Steel PANthers Steel Band and other student ensembles. Audiences will love the upbeat, exciting energy of Japanese Taiko, Brazilian Samba, and West African drumming in addition to traditional and arranged music for Trinidadian steel pans performed by UWM students and faculty with vibrant community ensembles.
