Biography

Dr. Michael Mergen performed with the trumpet/cornet section of the United States Marine Band, "The President's Own" in Washington, DC from 1999-2020. His duties included regular performances for the President of the United States, foreign heads of state, and significant national events. He regularly performed with the United States Marine Band, The United States Marine Chamber Orchestra, and the Band's chamber ensembles. A frequent soloist with the ensemble, Dr. Mergen was a tour soloist on the Marine Band's 2001 National Concert Tour. Dr. Mergen has performed with the Cleveland Orchestra, The Blossom Festival Band, The National Symphony Orchestra, The San Diego Symphony, and The Southeast Florida Symphony. He was a founding member of the Valor Brass and is heard on their 2015 album Inaugural. Before coming to University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, Dr. Mergen taught at the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music.
