Biography

David Hoffman joined the faculty in 2014 and teaches a variety of styles from musical theatre to opera to blue-eyed soul. He also serves as the faculty liaison for the Musical Theatre degree. As a teacher, Hoffman has been fascinated by this wonderful, magical beast called the “voice.” This has led to a lifelong journey studying and discovering innovative ways to unleash the creative power in performers. He is a certified Master Teacher of the Estill Voice Model. He was a founding member of Integrated Vocal Pedagogy, a voice teacher and performer training initiative integrating multidisciplinary tools with evidence-based pedagogy and emotional regulation science.

In addition to UWM he is a member of the Musical Theater Pedagogy degree at Carthage College. Other institutions include Chicago College of Performance at Roosevelt University, Lake Forest College, and the Old Town School of Folk Music. He has also served as the president for the Chicago Chapter of the National Association of Teachers of Singing.

He performs with the cabaret group Opera Inter Alia holding up the torch for the American Songbook. He frequently collaborates with the Chicago-based Cabaret Connexion conferences in Paris and Chicago as a performer and teacher. He has performed with the Chicago Folks Operetta, Da Corneto Opera Company, Sinfonietta Bel Canto, and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra Chorus.
