Our Mission

UWM is committed to providing opportunities for high school students to earn college credit. Every semester hundreds of high school students are enrolled in UWM courses that meet on campus or in their high schools. The Office of Dual Enrollment was created in 2019 to provide more dual enrollment opportunities and support for high school students.

What I found the most rewarding was putting in the effort to understand and do my best, and then seeing myself get good grades and succeed in a college level class. It makes me feel more comfortable and prepared for the classes I will be taking next year as a full college student.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why should I take a dual enrollment class?

Taking a dual enrollment class gives you a chance to get a head start on college while you’re still in high school. Through programs at UWM, you can earn real college credit early, which may help you reduce the total cost of your degree and complete requirements sooner. It also lets you experience actual college courses, so you get a sense of what college-level work is like. Dual enrollment can help you build confidence in the classroom, strengthen academic skills like writing and critical thinking, and explore different subjects to better understand your interests and possible majors.

Will these classes transfer with me to college?
  • You should check with the institution you plan to attend to see if the UWM class will transfer and how it will transfer. These decisions are made by the receiving institution.
  • We recommend using the Transferology website to see if there is a record of this UWM class transferring to your intended institution. If there is no record, reach out to the Undergraduate Admissions office to ask about transferability. Please provide a copy of the course syllabus if needed.
Do dual enrollment students have access to all services that degree-seeking students have?

No, dual enrollment students do not pay segregated fees, therefore, do not have access to services on campus like the fitness center, health services, and a free bus pass. Dual enrollment students do have access to the library and all tutoring services.

How do I order my transcript at the end to transfer the credit?

Students should order official transcripts through the Registrar’s Office. You need to upload a copy of your photo ID to verify your identity. The process will go faster if you also include your UWM ID # (991-##-####).

I have a 504 and/or IEP at my high school. Do I need to apply for accommodations for my UWM class?

Yes, you need to request accommodations for your UWM class. Complete a request and upload your 504 and/or IEP at UWM Accessibility Resource Center.
