Workshops help new and experienced riders prep for bike season

Got cabin fever? Is your commute (and parking when it’s over) getting you down?

Take heart: Biking season is right around the corner. Maybe this will be the year you leave the car in the garage and join UWM’s growing ranks of bike commuters.

The Office of Sustainability is offering free workshops to help you get ready for biking and making the switch to bike commuting.

Sessions include:

March 28, Getting your Bike Ready for the Season

A one-hour informational workshop on inspecting your bike for safety and rideability. Riders will learn what to look for, what to be concerned about and how to address common issues with their bike. 4 p.m., Student Union 260. Led by John Jordan and Andrew Avery-Johnson.

March 30, Make the Change, Commuting by Bike

A one-hour workshop to learn about the ins and outs of leaving your car behind for a regular bike commute. Learn how to pack, navigate the best routes and access campus resources to make your ride easier. 4 p.m., Student Union 240. Led by John Jordan & Kate Nelson.

April 5, Carrying the Extra Load

Join us for a ride down to the alumni-owned Coast-In Bikes on First Street. Carolyn Weber of Coast-In will give a walk-through of cargo bikes, gear to carry children, and other ways to outfit your bike to maximize its carrying capacity. 4 p.m. ride, 4:45 p.m. session at Coast-In Bikes.

The sessions are free, but online registration is required.
