Title IX training for students required

All UWM students must complete online training covering Title IX, sexual violence, healthy relationships, and alcohol and other drugs during the first six weeks of the 2017-18 academic year.

About 4,000 freshmen have received an email with a link to the 90-minute training with the expectation that they will complete it by Aug. 28. Returning students will receive a link to the training later this month and must complete it by the end of September.

The curriculum for students is different from online training completed last spring by UWM employees. Student workers must complete both versions of the training, and will need to do the student version this fall even if they previously completed the employee training.

Sexual violence prevention, reporting and response were the focus of both UWM and UW System task forces’ work in recent years. Completion of this course is a UW System requirement for students at all UW campuses. In future years, returning students will be asked to do a 20-minute refresher training, while new students will do the 90-minute version.
