Staff invited to participate in Habitat for Humanity event

UWM Shantytown

A student Habitat for Humanity group is organizing a “UWM Shantytown” event April 7-8, where students, faculty/staff and alumni are encouraged to make donations, join a team and fundraise, come to the event and build their own shanty to sleep in for the night.

This event is not just for students. UWM faculty and staff are encouraged to make a donation, create their own team, or come and enjoy the event, which will include speakers, live music, games and more.

Building supplies will be provided. Builders and/or residents of Shantytown are required to fundraise for admission into the event. Prizes will be awarded to the biggest team and individuals who raise the most funds, as well as to the best shelters. Teams will have until April 8 to fundraise $100 in support of Habitat for Humanity. Donations are tax-deductible.

The event is intended to raise awareness of Habitat’s belief that everyone deserves a safe, decent place to live. All proceeds from the event will go directly to the building of a house in Milwaukee.

More information can be found on the event website.
