Recruiting cancer survivors for exercise and wellness programming

Doctor of physical therapy students are seeking cancer survivors to participate in an exercise and wellness program for survivors of cancer at a local community based health club, starting on March 7.

Who: Survivor of any type of cancer, may be in or out of treatment regime. You do not need to be UWM employee; community participants are welcome.
What: Twice-weekly exercise sessions with supervised student physical therapists for individualized, supported and progressive exercise and wellness programming.
When: 12:15-1:15 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays from March 7 to May 9.
Where: The Wisconsin Athletic Club, 7601 N. Port Washington Road, Fox Point, Wis. Note: There is an $80 cost to belong to the club for duration of the program. No charge for current WAC members.
Why: The evidence overwhelmingly supports improved outcomes and better physical and social functioning in survivors who participate in moderate physical activity. Physical therapy students are in their final semester of the program; this practicum is associated with health promotion/wellness coursework.
