Signage

This page shows and explains common signage that is displayed throughout UWM’s main campus. It is the responsibility of customers to read and understand the signage. Failure to obey posted signage may result in citations and/or other penalties. The following is not a comprehensive list of all signs on campus.

Information Sign: Payment Information Sign

• What: There is no free parking on campus and all parking must be paid or validated in advance.
• Who: This sign applies to all customers on campus.
• Where: At the entrance of UWM parking lots and ungated garages.
• When: The sign is in effect at all times. Most parking lots do NOT allow overnight parking from 2 am to 5 am.

Gray Sign: Payment or Validation is Required

• What: Customers who pay by the hour or who have validation can park in this space or section of spaces.
• Who can park here: Customers who paid with:
  • Parkmobile
  • Passport
  • Pay station/meter
  • Or their parking validated by a UWM department
• When: The sign is in effect during all times.

Black Sign: Reserved for ANY Permit Holders

• What: This sign means the space is reserved for permit holders. Payment is otherwise required.
• Who: This sign applies to permit holders with the specified permit or All Access permit holders.
• When: Permit holders can parking any time from 5 am to 2 am. Typically, permits are required until a set time on weekdays, such at 3 pm or 4 pm. Customers without permits must pay for parking through app or pay station/meter after the permit only time period ends.
• Where: Most lots have reserved signs. EMS Garage and Sandburg have signs specific to students and faculty/staff; see below for details.

Black Sign: Reserved for Faculty/Staff

• What: This sign means the space is reserved for faculty/staff who have a parking permit for said facility when time frame is in effect. Payment is otherwise required.
• Who: This sign applies to faculty/staff members who have an annual or monthly permit for said location.
• When: Permit holders can parking any time from 5 am to 2 am. Typically, permits are required until a set time on weekdays, such at 3 pm or 4 pm. Customers without permits must pay for parking through app or pay station/meter after the permit only time period ends.
• Where: EMS Garage and Sandburg have signs indicating where students and faculty/staff can park.

Student Reserved Signs

• What: This sign means the space is reserved for students who have a parking permit for said facility when time frame is in effect. Payment is otherwise required.
• Who: This sign applies to students who have an annual, monthly, or semester permit for said location.
• When: Permit holders can parking any time from 5 am to 2 am. Typically, permits are required until a set time on weekdays, such at 3 pm or 4 pm. Customers without permits must pay for parking through app or pay station/meter after the permit only time period ends.
• Where: EMS Garage and Sandburg have signs indicating where students and faculty/staff can park.

Unmarked Spaces

• What: Not every space has a sign. Check adjacent spaces for instructions if there is no sign on your space. There should be another space with an arrow pointing towards your space, which provides the proper instructions.
• Where: This applies across campus.
• When: This applies at all times.
