ArcGIS Online

Software Overview


ArcGIS Online is a collaborative web GIS that allows you to use, create, and share maps, scenes, apps, layers, analytics, and data. You get access to content in ArcGIS Living Atlas of the World, ArcGIS apps, and cloud infrastructure, where you can add items; publish web layers; and create maps, apps, and scenes.

How to get this Software


To create an online account:

  1. Go to http://uwm.maps.arcgis.com/home
  2. Click Sign In in the upper right corner.
  3. Click USING YOUR UNIVERSITY OF WISCONSIN-MILWAUKEE ACCOUNT.
  4. Log in using your UWM credentials.

Premium ArcGIS Online Content

There are six premium content packages included in UW-Milwaukee’s ArcGIS Online subscription. These include:

  • Geocoding,
  • Network Analysis,
  • Spatial Analysis,
  • GeoEnrichment,
  • Demographics, and
  • Elevation Analysis.

Premium ArcGIS content consumes a large amount of credits but is quite reasonable when working with small data sets. We recommend that if you are doing heavy processing with lots of data, do so offline with ArcGIS Desktop and then upload your content to ArcGIS Online.

Esri Self-Paced E-Learning

UWM students get one free year of ArcGIS Desktop. To get access:

  1. Create an ArcGIS Online account.
    • Go to http://uwm.maps.arcgis.com/home
    • Click Sign In in the upper right corner.
    • Click USING YOUR UNIVERSITY OF WISCONSIN-MILWAUKEE ACCOUNT.
    • Log in using your UWM credentials.
  2. Then, visit the SoftwareShop and make a $0 purchase for ArcGIS Desktop (One-year Student Trial Version).
  3. Once your order is complete, you will receive an email containing everything you need for installation.

How to get this Software


To download ArcGIS Pro,

  1. Log into ArcGIS Online.
  2. Select the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee option when prompted.
  3. Log in using your UWM credentials.
  4. Click on your name in the upper right corner to view options and select My Settings.
  5. Choose Licenses on the left side.
  6. Scroll down and find the link to download next to ArcGIS Pro.
  7. Click Download.

Autodesk/AutoCAD

Software Overview

How to get this Software


Autodesk provides students with open access to more than 100 products. Visit the Autodesk Education page to get access to their suite of products. Students will be required to create a free Autodesk account in order to download the software.

Software Overview

JMP

Software Overview


JMP combines powerful statistics with dynamic graphics and memory to reveal insights that are impossible to gain from raw tables of numbers or static graphs.

UWM students can purchase JMP from the SoftwareShop at no cost.

The license period for JMP Pro volume is from August 1st through June 30 of the following calendar year. Licenses are valid through the end of the current license period regardless of the purchase date.

Software Overview


Read&Write software is a discrete, customizable toolbar that integrates reading, writing, studying, and research support tools with common applications.The software has features that benefit all students, and particular features are especially beneficial to struggling readers, writers, and students with learning disabilities. Additionally, English language learners can build confidence and independence to succeed at home, work, and school. This software is available at no cost to UWM students.

How to get this Software


UWM students can download read&write for free through the texthelp website.

  • Navigate to the texthelp website.
  • Click the Try read&write button.
  • Install on your desired browser/operating system.
  • Once you have the software installed, log in using your UW-Milwaukee credentials.
    • This will bypass any cost or free trial period.

Software Overview

Software Overview

UWM students can purchase the software from the STATA GradPlan website at an academic discount. Software purchased from the STATA GradPlan website can only be installed on the student’s personal computer.

Do you use PowerPoint to present in your classes? If so, think-cell – used by most consulting firms – might save you some time. think-cell is free to UWM students, faculty, and staff for nonprofit use.
