Committees
The following Student Affairs committees play an important role in the implementation of the Strategic Plan and ongoing Division of Student Affairs work.
Assessment
All members of Student Affairs are expected to actively participate in our assessment initiatives. However, some of our team members also serve as assessment leaders and are part of the Assessment Committee. The purpose of these efforts is to coordinate assessment activities and foster a culture of continuous improvement. This involves reviewing and offering suggestions for unit-level assessments, as well as consolidating individual unit data to present the Division’s overall impact on students.

These efforts are closely aligned with our Strategic Plan, specifically:
- Taking responsibility for Initiative 1: Evaluating and reporting on how our Student Affairs initiatives contribute to student success and retention.
- Supporting Initiative 11: Establishing the necessary infrastructure and resources to enhance student learning in harmony with Academic Affairs and institutional Experiential Learning initiatives.

Campus Life
Purpose: Provide the entire student body with a vibrant campus life unique to UWM

- Responsible for Initiative 5: Create spaces, opportunities, services, and programming that celebrate the diverse identities of UWM students
- Responsible for Initiative 15: Develop pathways of student engagement from point of entry through graduation

Campus Cares
Project Team formerly known as the Student Health and Wellbeing Committee
Purpose: Coordinate wrap-around services for students and help students develop healthy habits

Chairs: Zachary Garrity, Carrie L Fleider, Tima Guled, Sarah Razzano
Connection to Strategic Plan:
- Responsible for Initiative 12: Provide fundamental services (basic needs) to students, especially those in crisis
- Responsible for Initiative 13: Improve access to high-quality health and well-being resources that are respectful and responsive to the needs of a diverse student body
Benefits/Skill Development: Work with 2030 goals, help coordinate activities across departments, assist students with basic needs
Communications
Purpose: Communicate the role of Student Affairs and the UWM experience
SALT Champions: Amanda Braun and Adam Jussel

Connection to Strategic Plan:
- Responsible for Initiative 3: Develop a plan to communicate the Division’s student impact
- Supports Initiative 14: Build authentic relationships so that students feel that they belong
Benefits/Skill Development: Be creative, tell stories, communicate ideas effectively, brand building
Equity and Justice
Purpose: The Staff Engagement and Development committee seeks to create opportunities for staff to come together, learn from each other, recognition of excellence, and develop professionally in a community setting
SALT Champions: Amanda Braun
Chair: Mai Yer Yang, Ben Trager
Connection to Strategic Plan:
- Supports staff development needed to complete activities in the Strategic Plan
- Responsible for Initiative 2: Identify, articulate and implement impactful collaborative partnerships within the Division, across UWM and in the community
- Responsible for Initiative 14: Build authentic relationships so that students feel that they belong
- Develop and maintain strong and authentic relationships with students, staff, and community partners
Benefits/Skill Development:
- Work with different populations within Student Affairs, learn more about professional development, encourage growth of colleagues
- Develop and cultivate partnerships, build teams, provide a model for student-centered customer service
- Plan informal events, recognize colleagues, strengthen morale

Student Learning and Development
This Committee will demonstrate and document how our efforts impact students’ transformational learning journey through the use of Student Learning Outcomes.
Purpose: Collaborates within Student Affairs to intentionally create and map opportunities for learning and development, and partners with other divisions to create a full UWM student learning experience.

Connection to Strategic Plan:
- Supports Initiative 9: Provide a range of opportunities for skill development and transformational learning
- Responsible for Initiative 10: Adopt and implement a division-wide approach to incorporate reflection on skills growth into student employment, internships and graduate assistantships
- Responsible for Initiative 11: Develop infrastructure and resources to support student learning in a manner that is aligned with Academic Affairs and is in support of institutional Experiential Learning efforts
Areas of focus:
- Co-curricular Learning (i.e., partners with Academic Affairs on UW System Shared Learning Goals, such as Living Learning Communities, Experiential Learning, service-learning, internships, Ed Psych 101, Lawton Scholars)
- Skill Development and Transformational Learning (i.e., Student Affairs-led opportunities, such as student governance, leadership development, athletics, health and wellness programs, identity development)
- Student Employment
Benefits/Skill Development: Work more closely with Academic Affairs, help guide student employment in the Division, educate staff about student development
Technology, Facilities, and Operations
Purpose: Provide space for all supportive professionals to innovate and share ideas & concerns

Connection to Strategic Plan:
- Responsible for Initiative 4: Provide technology, financial, and human resources expertise needed to support students and Student Affairs staff
Benefits/Skill Development: Learn more about infrastructure, have a space to share with colleagues, bring concerns to leadership
Each year, committees will update their Scope of Work Template in August-September and complete their Annual Progress Report Template in May-June.
Committee members should expect to spend an average of 2-3 hours per month per committee. Committee chairs should expect to spend an average of six hours per month for meetings, agenda setting, and documentation.
