The Community Leaders Internship Program (CLIP) places work-study eligible students in internships at nonprofits, government agencies, schools, and businesses in the Milwaukee metro area.

CLIP supports students in developing a sense of civic responsibility and creates natural pathways for post-graduation employment through paid internships at a broad variety of industries in the Milwaukee area.

Between8-15Hours Per Week

UWM students work with community partners in part-time internship positions with wages supplemented by federal work-study dollars.

The work experiences in this program are enhanced by an on-campus learning component. Interns take an internship course for credit, or participate in structured co-curricular reflection opportunities. These opportunities are aimed at the development of critical thinking and effective communication skills as well as a sense of intercultural competence and individual, social, and environmental responsibility.

Typically, students in the program work between 8 to 15 hours per week for an entire academic year, and earn $12 – $15 per hour. Students must be eligible for federal work-study to participate in the program. The goal of the program is to create opportunities for students to earn their work-study award while also engaging in learning experiences related to professional and civic identity development.
