Hi, I’m Donald Brown, I’ve been with the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee Police Department for 12 years working as a Community Policing Officer and now as a Police Sergeant. At UWM PD, I enjoy working along with our Community Policing Team providing education to the campus community to keep them safe.

Kia and Hyundai Car thefts happen daily along with other makes & models of cars, nationwide – here are some helpful tips:

What can I do to prevent my car from getting stolen?

  • Never leave you keys in your car with your car running unattended,
  • Keep your car locked and don’t leave any valuables in your car,
  • Secure your car in a garage if you can,
  • Install an anti-theft device – such as a steering wheel locking device (Club) which is a good visual deterrent to prevent the theft of your car.

What do I do if my car is stolen?

  • Report your car stolen immediately to the police,
  • After police investigate, obtain a report number,
  • Then contact your insurance company to report your loss.

What information will the Police ask for?

  • Description of your car, make, model, color, license plate number, insurance company.
  • Do you have a GPS or tracking device in/on your car.

What is UWMPD doing to help with vehicle thefts?

  • UWM Police contacted Hyundai and they assisted our department by giving us steering wheel locking device (Clubs). UWMPD has provided steering wheel locking devices free of charge at our police station for students, faculty, and staff. We are also being very proactive in officers patrolling the campus and neighborhoods in are squads, by foot and bicycle.
