Virtual book series to feature ‘This Muslim American Life’ this spring

This spring, UWM’s Division of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion invites all faculty and staff to the next installment of its book series: “This Muslim American Life: Dispatches from the War on Terror,” a collection of essays on everyday life and the cultural politics of being Muslim American, by Moustafa Bayoumi. The discussion is part of the division’s book series, an aspect of professional development that aims to engage UWM faculty and staff in conversations about important topics in society.

The spring book discussions include four virtual sessions from 3-4 p.m.:

  • Tuesday, Feb. 13
  • Tuesday, Feb. 27
  • Tuesday, March 12
  • Wednesday, April 3

Participants will discuss anti-Muslim racism in the United States in history, theory, politics and culture. The discussions will be co-facilitated by Anna Mansson McGinty, an assistant professor of geography and women’s and gender studies, and Elizabeth Drame, of the DEI division and professor of teaching and learning.

Register at this webpage by Feb. 6. A Zoom link will be sent one week before the first session to those who have registered.

The book is available for free online through UWM Libraries.
