A guitar concert in his homeland of Cuba inspired then 9-year-old Rene Izquierdo’s passion for music. Today, Izquierdo is a world-renowned classical guitarist and recording artist who has played hundreds of concerts around the globe. The UWM Peck School of the Arts associate professor also created and built the school’s classical guitar department into one of the country’s top guitar programs.
He also honors his homeland in his research by unearthing, cataloguing and often recording works from classical Cuban composers that might have otherwise been lost to time.
