The challenge is part of the annual Lakefront Marathon, a 26.2-mile run that goes from Grafton High School in Ozaukee County to Veterans Park in Milwaukee.

The university challenge is a competition among marathon runners from UWM, Concordia University, Marquette University and the Milwaukee School of Engineering. UWM and Concordia founded the challenge in 2012; the course goes through both campuses.

The winner is determined by averaging the top five men’s times and the top five women’s times from each team. UWM has won four of the six competitions.

Fifty-nine UWM team members finished the marathon. Marquette had 64 finishers, Concordia had 23, and MSOE had eight.
