UWM to host National Depression Screening Day event

Oct. 11 marks National Depression Screening Day, and UWM wants to help those who may be feeling sad, angry, anxious or stressed.

Counselors will be available in the UWM Student Union to offer assistance the day of the event. People looking for assistance will receive an anonymous depression screening, educational resources, a confidential interview with a mental health specialist to discuss the results of individual screenings and a list of local resources.

Depression is a treatable disease once recognized, and counselors at the event will help navigate treatment options.

The free screenings will be offered from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. by signing up at the information table on the main floor in the UWM Union, or by going directly to rooms 143 or 145. UWM mental health counselors will also be at the information table to answer any questions pertaining to mental health.

This event is sponsored by the UWM Counseling Services. For more information please contact JoAnne Graham at the University Counseling Services at 414-229-5144.
