UWM students raise thousands at Panther Miracle Network Dance Marathon

More than 100 participants danced for six hours straight at the 2018 Panther Miracle Network Dance Marathon on Saturday at the Student Union.

The UWM dancers raised over $9,300 for Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin.

“Being able to experience this and seeing college students coming together and raising money for Children’s Hospital… I mean, it’s incredible,” said Brenna Larson, a Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin representative at the Dance Marathon.

Dance marathons are held at colleges and high schools across North America to benefit Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals, a nonprofit organization that raises money for more than 170 pediatric hospitals across North America.

“When you’re here and you see the kids and the families with all of the students and they see that final reveal, it’s euphoric. It’s beautiful,” said Karina Laufenberg, a UWM student and the marketing chair of Panther Miracle Network Dance Marathon.

Since it began in 1991, Miracle Network Dance Marathon has raised over $200 million for child pediatric illness. Students at Indiana University founded dance marathon in memory of Ryan White, a fellow student who passed away from HIV/AIDS.
