UWM student photographer featured in new documentary

UWM senior Jovanny Hernandez is being featured in a new mini-documentary exploring artists’ origins that debuts Wednesday, April 12. The Nō Studios documentary, the first of a series titled “Creating Milwaukee,” will be shown on WISN-Channel 12 at 11:45 a.m., followed by a livestreamed question/answer session with Hernandez.

Guests can attend the free launch event virtually or in person at Nō Studios, 1037 W. McKinley Ave., starting at 11 a.m., using this registration link.

Hernandez, a photography major, creative artist and photojournalist for the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, explores his identity and cultural heritage from the south side of Milwaukee and his family’s native lands in Oaxaca, Mexico. His work focuses on social justice issues through sharing stories and encouraging dialogue.

The “Creating Milwaukee” documentary series is being presented by the American Family Insurance Institute.
