UWM school honored for environmental contributions

UW-Milwaukee’s School of Freshwater Sciences received this year’s Keep Greater Milwaukee Beautiful IDEAL Innovation Award.

According to a statement from KGMB, the award is given for innovation by a for-profit or a nonprofit in promoting and implementing creative and effective services that enhance the environment. IDEAL Award recipients exemplify the spirit and passion of individuals and organizations that protect, preserve or sustain the environment. Finalists embody environmental excellence and value innovation, education, accountability and leadership in their efforts to Keep Greater Milwaukee Beautiful.

“This is well deserved and a recognition of what UWM means to and does for our community,” said Val Klump, professor and associate dean of research in the School of Freshwater Sciences.

Established in 1983, KGMB is a non-profit organization with a mission of promoting sustainability through clean, healthy and beautiful communities. KGMB has been a member organization of Keep America Beautiful, Inc. since 1985.
