UWM recognized for support of veterans

The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee has been recognized by the U.S. Department of Education for its commitment to the success of veterans.

UWM was added to the list of schools pledging to support the “8 Keys to Veterans’ Success” after Chancellor Mark Mone sent a letter to the Education Department affirming the university’s commitment.

Among those keys are:

  • Creation of a culture that promotes the well-being and success of veterans
  • Ensuring consistent and sustained support for veterans
  • Implementing an early alert system to ensure veterans get academic, career and financial advice before problems become overwhelming
  • Coordinating services for veterans with local communities and organizations.

More veterans attend UWM than any other school in Wisconsin. In addition, UWM is one of only three universities nationwide that partners with all three of the major veteran support programs — the Pat Tillman Foundation Scholars program, Veterans Upward Bound and the VetSuccess on Campus program.

On campus, UWM’s Military and Veterans Resource Center works to help veterans as they pursue their education.
