UWM to honor veterans with events throughout week

MILWAUKEE_The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee will honor veterans over the course of the week leading into Veterans Day, with events scheduled from Nov. 4 to Nov. 11.

“A lot of these events, like the Veterans Ball and the brunch, go back to military traditions,” said Mathew Armstrong, associate marketing specialist for UWM’s Military and Veterans Resource Center. “This is a way for veterans to see those familiar traditions on campus.”

UWM has a strong tradition of serving veterans. More veterans attend UWM than any other four-year college in the six-state region.

Some highlights of Veterans Week include:

Milwaukee Veterans Ball

Friday, Nov. 4, from 5:30 to 11 p.m. at the Hilton Milwaukee City Center, 509 W. Wisconsin Ave.

The third annual Milwaukee Veterans Ball honors all who have served in the U.S. armed forces. Current and former service members from all branches of the military will gather for a night of ceremony, cocktails, dinner, dancing and a silent auction.

This event is open to the public and is an opportunity for members of the community to show their support for veterans.

Last year’s ball attracted 275 attendees. This year, about 350 are expected.
