UWM accounting prof appears on ‘Wheel of Fortune’

Aaron Mandell now knows what it’s like to spin the “Wheel of Fortune.”

Mandell, an assistant professor who teaches accounting and taxation at UWM, will be featured on the game show on Wednesday, March 21. The episode will be broadcast on WDJT-TV in Milwaukee at 6:30 p.m.

He first auditioned over the summer at regional auditions in Oak Creek. After he made it past this first round and advanced to the second round of tryouts in downtown Milwaukee, producers for “Wheel of Fortune” asked Mandell and his wife, Karly, to play the game as a team for a special couples episode.

“They flew us out to L.A., and then on the day of taping, the shuttle picked us up at 6 a.m.,” said Mandell. “You’re naturally excited, and it’s a really fun game to play, but I was also really nervous to be there. I think I was more nervous in the morning than during the actual taping of the show.”

On the day that Mandell and his wife recorded the show, six total episodes of Wheel of Fortune were filmed. They were members of the audience during the first two episodes, then played the game in its third round.

During his introduction, Mandell mentioned that he was a professor at UWM, and made a tax joke, which he says “probably went over ok.”
