Reduce your chances of being robbed

The UWM Police Department would like to remind you there are several things you can do to reduce your chances of being a victim of a robbery. Remember criminals tend to target those who appear to be easy targets. If they must work too hard to steal your stuff, they will probably move on to something else.

Here are a few tips to reduce the chances of you being the victim of a robbery:

  • Don’t walk alone at night. Walk in a group or with a buddy
  • Don’t wear headphones while walking, day or night, and be aware of the noises around you.
  • Don’t walk while using your phone. Your phone is a distraction that can cause you to be an easy target.
  • Be aware of your surroundings. You never know who or what could be lurking nearby.

If you do get robbed, contact your law enforcement agency as soon as possible. Remember, your personal property isn’t worth your life.

Always report any suspicious activity or crimes to the police.
