Members of UWM’s campus community are invited to submit artwork and creative writing pieces to the collaborative community zine project “En-Vision: Toward A Queer Ethics of Slow Care.” Submissions must be emailed to ifincher@uwm.edu by April 20.
“En-Vision: Toward A Queer Ethics of Slow Care” is an initiative sponsored by the Center for 21st Century Studies (C21) and directed by UWM master’s candidate Isabella Fincher that explores creative practices and embodied experiences of slow care for individuals living with chronic illness and impairments. Members of UWM’s campus community are invited to submit artwork and creative writing pieces to a collaborative community zine project on a queer ethics of slow care.
“En-Vision” is about slowing down, radical self-care and fostering networks of mutual support and caregiving. We welcome all members of the UW-Milwaukee student community to submit their creative work.
Theme: We’re seeking creative writing and visual art projects related to the themes of queerness and an ethic of slow care. Priority will be given to submissions related to chronic illness, disability and related critical approaches. We welcome creative, inspired and innovative projects that push the boundaries of this theme and foster a sense of community care and support.
Writing: Poetry, flash fiction, creative nonfiction, personal essays, fictional stories
Visual art: Photography, illustration, art, collage, typography, mixed media
Guidelines:
- Email submissions to ifincher@uwm.edu with the email header “En-Vision Zine Submission.”
- Only undergraduate or graduate students enrolled at UW-Milwaukee are eligible to submit.
- Only two submissions allowed per person. Please include the following personal information along with your submission: full name, pronouns, major/year and a short biography.
- AI submissions not accepted.
- Writing submissions must be no more than 1,000 words (Word document). Shorter submissions preferred.
- Visual art submissions must be at least 300 dpi (JPEG or PNG) and include a project description or explanation of how it relates to the theme (Word document).
Timeline:
- Submission deadline: April 20
- Zine print and digital release: May 2026
