Noah a hit with UWM’s “Daily Show” fans

Longtime “Daily Show” fan Julia Koster wasn’t going to miss this one.

Koster was among the hundreds who caught new “Daily Show” host Trevor Noah’s stand-up comedy act at the Milwaukee Theatre Saturday, April 16.

“It’s super exciting that we get someone like Trevor Noah,” Koster said. “He’s known worldwide and has this huge platform.”

Sponsored by UWM’s Campus Activities Board, Noah’s act was free for students, and some 1,100 attended despite its off-campus location. For freshman accounting and finance major Victor Marin, who attended with a large group of friends, the Noah show was a chance to stretch his legs in the city.

“It’s something different,” Marin said. “It’s nice to just get out of campus, because we do most of our stuff in campus.”

Bushra Fathima, a senior biomedical sciences major, said Noah was a great choice for a UWM performance. “He makes everyone kind of introspective,” said Fathima, who snagged a seat among the front few rows what they’re talking about, “and see how we’re not worrying about the rest of the world.”

Koster said the Noah show was an example of UWM “moving in the right direction,” coming in the wake of several high-profile political events at UWM.

“It says a lot about the student body as well,” Koster said, “in that we’re craving knowledge, so we want intelligent people who are making big moves here at UWM.”
