New off-campus rental search website is live

UWM has partnered with RentCollegePads.com, an off-campus housing marketplace, to provide a new and improved off-campus housing search tool to UWM students.

Rent College Pads, via the software on the university’s website, has replaced the old home-grown listing service, at no cost to students. Students can compare off-campus housing options, find parking spaces for rent, find roommates, sublet their existing units and review landlord ratings; all through a more user-friendly online experience.

“The Rent College Pads platform helps students make safe, informed renting decisions because all of the verified housing options are in once place,” Rent College Pads CEO Dominic Anzalone said.

Student can access the site using a single sign-on using an ePanther ID and password. The site features a map of the area surrounding campus where students can see an overhead view of all properties. Adjacent to the map is a set of filters to narrow results to a specific selection, including walk time to campus and other helpful features. Custom tailored to the needs of student renters, the Rent College Pads platform features a roommate and sublease finder.

“We are thrilled about our new partnership with Rent College Pads,” said Alyssa Conrardy, neighborhood housing & relations manager at UWM’s Neighborhood Housing Office. “This new interface takes the off-campus search process to the next level, and we are excited to be able to increase our proactive neighborhood relations, programming, outreach and rental education efforts while Rent College Pads takes care of the listing service.”

Students are able to locate landlords and rental companies who participate in the Preferred Tenant Program, a program offering rent discounts to tenants through UWM. Students can also search for rentals meeting “Good Neighbor” criteria, all of which pass a property and background check, take the City of Milwaukee landlord training course, participate in the Preferred Tenant Program, and are verified to have no serious complaints by students through the University Legal Clinic and the Neighborhood Housing Office.

Listings on the site are purchased by landlords, who use their custom login to manage their listings, making management of the site easy. Landlords noncompliant with university policy are promptly removed from the site creating a trusted, one-stop-shop for all things off-campus housing.
